Custom domains

A custom domain opens your share links — the hosted designer, proofs, corrections and address capture — on your shop’s own address, such as design.shop.com, instead of the studio’s. It serves those pages only: never the studio, signing in or the API.

Pro includes 5 custom domains, and each one more is billed on the Pro subscription, at €1 a month, or €10 a year on yearly Pro; only an admin can add one that is billed. Business includes 50. Free and Starter include none. A sandbox’s share links always open on the studio’s address: add domains in the live workspace. See Billing.

  1. In the studio’s sidebar, under Workspace, open Domains and choose Add domain.
  2. Enter a subdomain of your shop’s address, such as design.shop.com. Your shop’s own domain (shop.com) can’t be used, as it already points at your shop.
  3. The page shows two DNS records. Create both where your shop’s DNS is managed; Copy name and Copy value copy each.
Type Name Value
CNAME your domain, such as design.shop.com the address the page shows
TXT _pixonaut. and your domain, such as _pixonaut.design.shop.com pixonaut-domain-verification= and the domain’s token, as the page shows it

The TXT record proves the domain is yours; the CNAME sends its visitors to Pixonaut. Adding a domain takes permission to change the workspace’s settings.

Pixonaut looks for the records in the background, every minute at first, for up to 24 hours: a new DNS record can take a while to show. Check now looks again at once. Once both are found, a certificate is issued for the domain, and its share links open on it. Each domain shows where it is:

  • Checking DNS: the records, or the certificate, are not there yet. The page says which: the TXT record, the CNAME record, the certificate, or the domain already used by another workspace.
  • Verified: share links open on it.
  • Broken: it was verified, but its records no longer point at Pixonaut, so share links open on the studio’s address until they are back.
  • Failed: the records were not found within 24 hours. Check them at your DNS provider, then choose Check again.

A verified domain on a plan without custom domains stays in the list but serves nothing until the workspace moves to Pro.

Each domain can be tied to one connected store with Store: share links for that store’s products open on it, and each store has one domain at most. Make one domain the Default, and every share link that is not for a store’s product opens on it.

Remove stops share links opening on the domain at once; they open on the studio’s address instead. Delete its DNS records afterwards.
