Set an order's status by hand

Operation ID: orders.update

A secret key moves an order forward by hand, for a printshop with no API of its own such as the local one: printed, shipped (optionally with tracking) or failed (optionally with a reason). An order moves forward only, never out of shipped, failed or cancelled, and never to cancelled, which only POST /v1/orders/{id}/cancel reaches by asking its printshop.

An order whose submission’s answer was lost is outcome_unknown. Once you have asked its printshop, settle it: failed when the printshop does not have it, after which POST /v1/orders/{id}/retry submits it again, or submitted when it does, optionally with externalOrderRef, the printshop’s own reference for it, so its status is followed from then on. A connected store’s integration key and a studio member holding orders:update may make these two moves and no other. Settling needs a reason, kept in the audit log with who settled it; refused 422 order_status_reason_required without one. A reference another order holds, or one other than the order’s own, is refused 409 order_reference_taken.

In a sandbox, whose orders reach no printshop, an integration key and a member move an order as a secret key does, so a store can rehearse an order shipping or failing.

A reason with any status but failed is kept in the audit log only. Any other move is refused 409 order_status_not_allowed.
